The peak ride didn’t go exactly as planned. But, as it turns out, that’s okay. I had planned on about a 40 mile loop and ended up with a 30 mile out-and-back. The best part is that I got home before my dear wife started to wonder where I was and called search and rescue. Not like that’s ever happened before…
I’ve decided fire roads—and this fire road in particular—are the at the heart of boring. I ended up having to put in an audio book just to keep myself from not committing hari kari with my fork.
Recently I obtained my newest gadget, a Garmin 500 and this was it’s inaugural ride.
Looking back on the ride I can clearly see where I missed my turn. Just before descending into the canyon on Ray’s Road, there’s a north/south road. I should have gone north there. But alas, I tacked on 5-ish miles and got turned around after hitting a dead-end road. I suppose I could have retraced my route and tried to find the correct road, but at the time I had no idea where my mistake lay.
In the end I figured 30 miles on dirt was just about as good as 40 and called it a day.
So where was our invite? I rode Squaw Peak last year from Provo Canyon down into the right fork of Hobble Creek Canyon. Good climb. Was this before or after Blackhawk? We are still very interested in some riding…I endo’d 2 weeks back and got the crap kicked out of me, but I have since ridden the crest trail and can say that I worked out the involuntary shaking that occurred on my first ride out after the crash. So although slow, I love it! Keep the invites coming and I’ll let you know if we acn manage another crest trail before the snow.

The Squaw Peak ITT was before Blackhawk. This ride (Strawberry Ridge) was just a training ride—nothing but long climbs and truck traffic. It was a slog! 4000 of elevation gain and nothing to see—but my legs got a good workout!
